The word “texture” is defined as “the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or substance”, “the tactile quality of the surface of a work of art” and “the quality created by the combination of the different elements in a work of music or literature”. 

In a way, all of these definitions apply to the role of texture in interior design. Not only does it create interesting topographies where light bounces off in different ways, but it is also a composition element as it is in music, art or poetry.
