 In Leonardo Da Vinci’s Trattato della pittura he describes the technique to make an object appear further by making it progressively bluer in proportion to its distance.  
In the world of painting, virtuous skill can produce what’s called atmospheric perspective or aerial perspective. When done properly, artists can create the illusion of depth by imitating light scattered by thick “blue” air. 

Just like a painter can create the illusion of depth and atmosphere in a bi-dimensional space, interior designers can do something similar. The so-called “ambience” of a place is nothing more than its mood and atmosphere.  The use of strategic lighting and colour scheme designs can produce intense changes in the atmosphere of a room, almost making the air seem thicker, warmer, or even more humid.

Leonardo loved blue, but why not orange, or purple?
Different coloured atmospheres can produce a wide variety of sensations and vibes. This is key when designing the hospitality experience.
